How fast can a Shih Tzu run?
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), who conduct Coursing Ability Tests (CAT) that assess a dog’s running speed. They have reported that the average running speed of a Shih Tzu is 15.3 mph.
The fastest Shih Tzu is one that goes by the name of Sweetiepie, a bitch, who managed to reach an impressive speed of 18.54 mph. In second place came Daisy Lee, who managed to run 17.85 mph. So they are certainly fast little runners given their short legs and long little bodies!
There are many benefits to owning a Shih Tzu, but one of the best things about them is that they make great running partners. They are always up for a game of fetch or a run around the block, and have very energetic and witty personalities.
What is the AKC Fast Coursing Ability Test (CAT)?
The AKC Fast Coursing Ability Test (CAT) is a test designed to evaluate a dog’s natural running speed. The test is open to all AKC-recognized breeds, and any mixed-breed dog. It’s a fun way to get involved in the world of dog sports and to assess your dog’s running speed. You may be surprised at how fast your little one can run!
Anyone is able to get involved in this, as long as you have a dog that can participate, and it’s important to note that your dog won’t compete against another dog, they will simply run by themselves along a long strip (between 300 and 600 yards) to compete.
It’s not a competitive test and you should consider it a fun day out to meet other dog lovers, and owners. If your dog runs at an incredible speed, they may make the top 20 leader board!
